Pre-Workshop Activities
Ahead of the workshop, accepted participants will be invited to contribute short materials (e.g., summaries, provocations, visuals) to a shared online board. These will help surface interests, tensions, and open questions, forming the starting point for discussion and activities during the workshop.
Workshop Activities
The workshop will run across two 90-minute sessions and will be highly interactive. Planned activities include:
- Short lightning talks and demo-led provocations
- Structured debates around the role and boundaries of cross-sensory interaction
- Creative breakout groups exploring theoretical, design, and ethics-focused perspectives
- Collaborative mapping of challenges, opportunities, and future research directions
The emphasis is on collective exploration rather than polished results.
Post-Workshop Activities
Following the workshop, outcomes will be consolidated into shared artefacts and summaries. We aim to sustain momentum through follow-up publications, community channels, and future events (e.g., an Interactions magazine article, a Dagstuhl Seminar, or repeat workshops at future venues), contributing to a longer-term roadmap for cross-sensory HCI research.
Schedule
The workshop runs as two 90-minute sessions:
Session 1 — Framing & Provocation
- Welcome and conceptual framing
- Lightning talks and demo-led provocations
- Structured debate on cross-sensory interaction as a distinct notion in sensory HCI research and practice
Session 2 — Co-Creation & Roadmapping
- Creative breakouts (theory, design, ethics & inclusion)
- Gallery walk and collective synthesis
- Roadmap building and next steps for the community
The format emphasizes discussion, making, and collaboration, rather than traditional paper presentation
